Our guide took us to the Hu Xue-Yan House on Hefang Street. It is not in Lonely Planet and was quite wonderful. Hu Xueyan (1823-1885), was a local celebrity and one of the richest and most famous businessmen in Qing Dynasty. In 1872, he built this house in Chinese style, with many pavilions, booths, bridges and rockeries. In reality not a house but a whole set of interlinked spaces. Masses to explore and quite wonderful.
