Logies 2011: Katy Perry Adds Firework To Night Of Surprises, by Eva Rinaldi

The Australian entertainment industries night of nights was certainly glamorous by Australian standards and delivered strongly in surprises and audience delight.

There were a ton of surprises and its safe to say that the organisers, including the Nine Network, got it right this year.

An emotional and gracious Karl Stefanovic, who won the Gold Logie, paid tribute to his wife Cass for "giving up a promising TV career of her own with the ABC to let me do this and look after our three beautiful kids."

The capacity crowd loved Karl's affectionate words for Network Nine boss David Gyngell -"He's probably at home, in his Homer Simpson undies, scratching himself or whatever he does, but mate, I love you as a boss and more importantly as a friend."

He also remembered his family saying he thanked his "mum for her beautiful soul" and his dad "for your male-pattern baldness, big guy."

The popular TV presenter - journalist disclosed that his mentor was Laurie Oakes: "The reason I am in this business and want to be for the rest of my life."

He had originally promised to stick to soda water, however he left stage with "I'm going to the bar."

Stefanovic threw into his entertaining speech that added he did not believe half of Australia would know who he was "if he wasn't pole-axed on Grey Goose vodka".

"I thought it was career-ending...but I survived it", he said.

"So yes I will probably have two dozen champagnes, a few vodkas and what not, but I will be right for the show in the morning."

On the success on the Today Show he shared: "We're risking things but we're both more confident...I've never been more confident in front of the camera, and I don't want that to sound arrogant, but that comes with the miles I've had on air."

A ton of actors, actresses and presenters made their way to the podium before Stefanovic at Melbourne's Crown Casino looking a bit bewildered as they grasped their viewer-SMS-voted Most Popular awards.

'Our Karl', the Channel 9 Today host and sometimes 60 Minutes reporter who ran away with the Gold Logie from Packed To The Rafters duo Rebecca Gibney and Jessica Marais, who I understand were hot favourites.

The popular awards had the room talking. Asher Keddie of Ten's Offspring, bested Seven's Packed To The Rafters dynamos Gibney and Marais as Most Popular Actress. Another surprise of the TV Week sponsored event was Chrissie Swan of Channel Ten's morning chat show The Circle. She was voted Most Popular New Female Talent...ahead of prime-time personalities Emma Booth, Julie Goodwin, Poh Ling Yeow and Hannah Marshall.

Ten's MasterChef, one of the highest-rating series in Australian television, was nominated for just one award - Most Popular Reality Program - which it won.

Stefanovic also won Most Popular Presenter ahead of Hamish Blake, Adam Hills, Shaun Micallef and Swan.

Underbelly: The Golden Mile's Firass Dirani won Most Popular New Talent, however his show was beaten by Packed To The Rafters as the viewers' favourite drama.

Channel Nine got more acholades with Underbelly being judged Most Outstanding Drama, while the Most Outstanding Actor and Actress went to Richard Roxburgh (Rake, ABC) and Claire van der Boom (Sisters Of War, ABC).

News media commentators, celebrities and the general public agreed that the strong line up of performing artists, headlined by Katy Perry, made this years Logies one of the best ever.

A ton of actors, actresses and presenters made their way to the podium before Stefanovic at Melbourne's Crown Casino looking a bit bewildered as they grasped their viewer-SMS-voted Most Popular awards.

'Our Karl', the Channel 9 Today host and sometimes 60 Minutes reporter who ran away with the Gold Logie from Packed To The Rafters duo Rebecca Gibney and Jessica Marais, who I understand were hot favourites.

The popular awards had the room talking. Asher Keddie of Ten's Offspring, bested Seven's Packed To The Rafters dynamos Gibney and Marais as Most Popular Actress. Another surprise of the TV Week sponsored event was Chrissie Swan of Channel Ten's morning chat show The Circle. She was voted Most Popular New Female Talent...ahead of prime-time personalities Emma Booth, Julie Goodwin, Poh Ling Yeow and Hannah Marshall.

Ten's MasterChef, one of the highest-rating series in Australian television, was nominated for just one award - Most Popular Reality Program - which it won.

Stefanovic also won Most Popular Presenter ahead of Hamish Blake, Adam Hills, Shaun Micallef and Swan.

Underbelly: The Golden Mile's Firass Dirani won Most Popular New Talent, however his show was beaten by Packed To The Rafters as the viewers' favourite drama.

Channel Nine got more acholades with Underbelly being judged Most Outstanding Drama, while the Most Outstanding Actor and Actress went to Richard Roxburgh (Rake, ABC) and Claire van der Boom (Sisters Of War, ABC).

News media commentators, celebrities and the general public agreed that the strong line up of performing artists, headlined by Katy Perry, made this years Logies one of the best ever.

The Supanova pop culture expo enjoyed its final day in Sydney, Australia, today and celebrated actor Eric Roberts made a media and public appearance for the lucky fans who made the effort to track him down out to Olympic Park, Homebush, in Sydney's west.
Lines of hundreds of fans lined up to meet and greet their favourite actors from popular culture and news media jockeyed for position, showing their credentials to get the exclusive scoops.
Many fans and media types agreed that Eric Roberts was the creme of the crop from today's celebrity bunch, while some fans were happy just to take the opportunity to dress up as their favourite pop culture character.
The 3 day pop culture mania brought together fans, actors, game players, information and tons of merchandise and collectibles. Make no mistake - this is big business, but also lots of fun. It brings out the kid lurking inside all of us, no matter what our age.
Witnessing the general public dress up as their favourite hero, heroine or monster was just as much fan as the official exhibitions.
Coming out to the expo joining in the fun (and big business) are over 40 international stars from various shows, films, franchises and worlds.
The real life superheroes of Australian pro wrestling - AWF Wrestling turned up again and put on some very solid chain wrestling and brawling to the delight of the crowd. The wrestlers were also a big favourite with the media.

Adrienne Barbeau, born June 11, 1945 in Sacramento, California, is an American actress and the author of three books. Barbeau came to prominence in the 1970s as Broadway's original Rizzo in the musical Grease, and as Carol Traynor, the divorced daughter of Maude Findlay in the sitcom Maude. In the early 1980s, Barbeau was a sex symbol, starring in several horror and science fiction films including The Fog, Creepshow, Swamp Thing, and Escape from New York. During the 1990s, she became known for providing the voice of Catwoman on Batman: The Animated Series and subsequent Batman cartoon series. In the 2000s, she appeared in the HBO series Carnivàle as Ruthie the snake dancer.

Tricia as a Manga Character - using The Face Transfomer

I just watched Epic Fu's great episode, which included a piece on The Face Transfomer. Beyond thinking that the Face Transfomer is cool, I started thinking about the social meaning behind this exercise.

Here I am pretending to be an “Afro-Carriabean” - wtf? I mean cool yes, sure, I want to see what I look like as a manga character and am curious to see what I look like as a black person, but there was something odd about trying on different races. Literally.

What does it mean for race relations and conceptions when we feel that we can freely try on different races? Have we become so comfortable with race that we can play around with it like shopping for clothing?

I am always really sensitive when people say that a person acts like a certain race or culture. It’s almost akin to imaginatively being another race - kinda like what we are doing with Face Transfomer. And you know I actually hear this verbal exchange most often among my white and black or latino friends. I’ve heard a black person say to a white person, “you know so much about black culture that you are black or at least must have been black in a past life.” Now I find that on one end to be a compliment, that the white person is accepted as part of the black community, but on the other end I find it difficult to swallow as a form of compliment because most often it is white people who have the most latitude to be absorbed into another race or cultural group. You don’t usually hear the reverse, that a white person will say to a black person, “wow you know so much about black culture that you are actually white!” It's like you hear in the movies where they say to white people, you can always come into our part of town, but we will never be allowed to come into yours.

For dominant groups, like Caucasians in the US, race can be an after thought so it’s almost like a novelty to pretend for a moment that one is another race or ethnicity. For people who look anything other than white in Western countries, there isn’t as much freedom to forget one’s skin color because they are reminded of it (usually negatively) in their daily interactions with institutions and people.

In particular, for non-whites, being a certain race or ethnicity can be a complicated process of accepting ones skin color and coming to terms with the popular (mis)conceptions of one’s race or ethnic group. A lot of times, this entails the imagination of being white before a full embracement of one’s race or heritage. For a time period when I was a teenager raised in an all white upper-class community, I wished I was white so badly so that I wouldn't have to deal with the racist jaunts by my classmates. And so here I am, trying on a "West-Indian" face. Kinda surreal. Now do I really want to imagine what it is like to look like an Indian female, let's say in the US? or in India? and from what class? what is my migration history? or was I born here? My point is that being another race is more than just trying it on for a few seconds digitally, but some how we've reduced it down to just that and I wonder if this novelty is an indicator of that we're comfortable with race or that we're just dealing with race in a more post-modern removed and techno-mediated way.

And you know it's usually people who are more affluent who have the opportunity become the "other," to learn about another culture and to transplant themselves into another ethnic group’s cultural world. So jokes made to white people like “wow you know so much about my culture, you must be Mexican” just make me uncomfortable because there’s a certain level of privilege that comes with learning about another “culture.” The fact that I make time and spend money to learn Spanish because I find the language beautiful and useful for my academic interests in Mexican migration is a privilege. Now it is a privilege that I embrace and am not embarrassed of and make no apologies for, but at the same time I am quite aware of my social position to even be able to learn another language more out of interest and less out of need.

So back to Face Transformer - does this mean America is comfortable with race (and manga, chimps and euro painters j/k) if we can freely try on different races? And what does this say about race when we can collapse large groups of people together into general categories? In Face Transformers all the blacks, Caribbeans and Africans are grouped into the afro-caribbean category, and all Asians are collapsed into the East-Asian category and I think the West Indian group is not referring to people from the West Indies but Indians and Middle-Easterners. This is an odd form of racial reductionism. And where are the Latinos – where do they fit in this? And Inuits?

I’ve always kept a tab on these Face Transformer-like sites and I think the fun in trying these online sites out is an expression of an underlying desire to temporarily imagine another physical body without fully committing to that body/face. And the kinds of changes rendered by these online sites point to a greater cultural obsession or let’s say anxiety with that rendering. So for Face Transfomers we could say this is an obsession with race and euro paintings:) Oh and with age also – you can chose to be a young adult, baby, teenager and old person.

One of the predecessors to Face Transformers was My Heritage and I wrote about the social meaning behind that too 2 years ago when it launched. So instead of transforming into a race or chimp, like Face Transformer, you can transform yourself into a celebrity and see which one you most closely resemble. So this points to an obsession with celebrities.

Well after my social diagnosis I think I will upload another picture on Face Transformer and see what I look like as a Male. Hmmm perhaps I have an underlying anxiety with switching genders? Well did anyone have these thoughts when they uploaded a face on Face Transfomer?

oh and one thing that I definitely learned is that I don't like good as a Caucasian! Good thing that I embrace my Chinese face!

The Australian entertainment industries night of nights was certainly glamorous by Australian standards and delivered strongly in surprises and audience delight.

There were a ton of surprises and its safe to say that the organisers, including the Nine Network, got it right this year.

An emotional and gracious Karl Stefanovic, who won the Gold Logie, paid tribute to his wife Cass for "giving up a promising TV career of her own with the ABC to let me do this and look after our three beautiful kids."

The capacity crowd loved Karl's affectionate words for Network Nine boss David Gyngell -"He's probably at home, in his Homer Simpson undies, scratching himself or whatever he does, but mate, I love you as a boss and more importantly as a friend."

He also remembered his family saying he thanked his "mum for her beautiful soul" and his dad "for your male-pattern baldness, big guy."

The popular TV presenter - journalist disclosed that his mentor was Laurie Oakes: "The reason I am in this business and want to be for the rest of my life."

He had originally promised to stick to soda water, however he left stage with "I'm going to the bar."

Stefanovic threw into his entertaining speech that added he did not believe half of Australia would know who he was "if he wasn't pole-axed on Grey Goose vodka".

"I thought it was career-ending...but I survived it", he said.

"So yes I will probably have two dozen champagnes, a few vodkas and what not, but I will be right for the show in the morning."

On the success on the Today Show he shared: "We're risking things but we're both more confident...I've never been more confident in front of the camera, and I don't want that to sound arrogant, but that comes with the miles I've had on air."

A ton of actors, actresses and presenters made their way to the podium before Stefanovic at Melbourne's Crown Casino looking a bit bewildered as they grasped their viewer-SMS-voted Most Popular awards.

'Our Karl', the Channel 9 Today host and sometimes 60 Minutes reporter who ran away with the Gold Logie from Packed To The Rafters duo Rebecca Gibney and Jessica Marais, who I understand were hot favourites.

The popular awards had the room talking. Asher Keddie of Ten's Offspring, bested Seven's Packed To The Rafters dynamos Gibney and Marais as Most Popular Actress. Another surprise of the TV Week sponsored event was Chrissie Swan of Channel Ten's morning chat show The Circle. She was voted Most Popular New Female Talent...ahead of prime-time personalities Emma Booth, Julie Goodwin, Poh Ling Yeow and Hannah Marshall.

Ten's MasterChef, one of the highest-rating series in Australian television, was nominated for just one award - Most Popular Reality Program - which it won.

Stefanovic also won Most Popular Presenter ahead of Hamish Blake, Adam Hills, Shaun Micallef and Swan.

Underbelly: The Golden Mile's Firass Dirani won Most Popular New Talent, however his show was beaten by Packed To The Rafters as the viewers' favourite drama.

Channel Nine got more acholades with Underbelly being judged Most Outstanding Drama, while the Most Outstanding Actor and Actress went to Richard Roxburgh (Rake, ABC) and Claire van der Boom (Sisters Of War, ABC).

News media commentators, celebrities and the general public agreed that the strong line up of performing artists, headlined by Katy Perry, made this years Logies one of the best ever.

2010 Operation Rising Star finalists announced!

ALEXANDRIA, Va. – The 12 semi-finalists for the 2010 Operation Rising Star live finals were selected by the U.S. Army Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command’s Army Entertainment Division this week.

Based on vocal talent and stage presence, the semi-finalists were selected by 10 professional judges who viewed DVDs of the winners’ performances from 31 installations and unanimously decided who will perform live at the Wallace Theatre on Fort Belvoir at 8 p.m Nov. 13, 15, 17 and 19.

In alphabetical order, they are: Sonja Ambrosino, a Family member at Fort Campbell, Ky.; Justin Black, a Family member at Fort Riley, Kan.; Spc. Jorge Cardona at Camp Bondsteel, Kosovo; Shaunna Cook, a Family member at Kaiserslautern, Germany; Spc. Nicholas Davis at Grafenwoehr, Germany; Gavren Gimarino, a Family member at Camp Red Cloud, Korea; Melissa Gomez, a Family member at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Maj. Serelda Herbin at Fort Hood, Texas; Pfc. David Liddle at Presidio of Monterey, Calif.; 1st Sgt. (Ret.) Tracy Ross at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Pfc. Callie West at Yongsan, Korea; and Jacinia Whitfield, a Family member at Fort Irwin, Calif.

Videos of the semi-finalists’ winning garrison-level performances are available for viewing online at www.ArmyMWR.com.

Local contests were held at garrison Family and MWR food and beverage facilities world-wide during Aug. and Sept., 2010. The contest was open to all Active Duty military and their Family members, ages 18 and older. FMWRC Marketing provided turn-key and standardized marketing and promotional kits to support these local events.

“The promotion is a true partnership between Marketing, Entertainment and Clubs to provide quality programs to Army communities world-wide,” Rusty Rayzor, Director of Marketing, Family and MWR Command, said.

The finals at Fort Belvoir will be hosted by GeNienne Samuels, Captain of the Washington Wizard Girls and member of Sweethearts for Soldiers, the finals consist of three competition nights and one reveal show where the winner will be crowned. During the first competition on Saturday, all 12 contestants will compete for six spaces at the Monday semi-finals. The final three will compete on Wednesday night.

At all competitions, the singers will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges, including Debra Byrd, American Idol voice coach; Michael Peterson, country music singer and Sgt. Maj. of the Army (Ret.) Jack Tilley. Joining the judges throughout the competition are: Josh Gracin, a recording artist and American Idol season two veteran who will perform during the show; Kandi Burruss, Grammy Award winner, recording artist, and star of The Atlanta Housewives, who will also perform during the show, and Bonnie-Jill Laflin, the first NBA female scout for the L.A. Lakers and an actress and model who founded Hounds and Heroes.

Lisa Pratt – the 2009 Operation Rising Star winner – will perform during Friday’s “reveal” show.

“Operation Rising Star is a program of the U.S. Army Entertainment Division whose motto is ‘For the Soldier, By the Soldier,’” said executive producer Tim Higdon.

“All of our programs, including the Army Soldier Show, are designed to highlight and present the “other” talents of our men and women serving, and in many cases, their Families, as well,” Higdon said.

According to Higdon, programs such as Operation Rising Star are an important part of the wartime experience. They provide a release and an opportunity to decompress from the stresses of the mission, both as a participant and as a viewer. And with the inclusion of our Soldier’s Family members, it makes ORS even more valuable to this mission.

“Operation Rising Star demonstrates, as do all of our programs, that Soldiers and their families are people just like you and me, with talents worthy of recognition and praise. In a lot of ways, programs like this are even more effective in boosting morale because they include Soldiers entertaining Soldiers. They’ve been providing entertainment for each other since the days where they sat around a campfire the night before a battle telling stories to one another. Entertaining each other has always be an integral part of Soldier camaraderie,” Higdon said.

All four shows at the Wallace Theater are open to the public, and will be aired live on the Pentagon Channel and via streaming video through the Web. The Pentagon Channel will also air the shows in Korea and Germany; check local listings for times and dates.

The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is pleased to announce that its three-week-old baby gorilla is a female. The baby was born on January 10 to 26-year-old mom Mandara and 16-year-old dad Baraka. Mandara is again proving herself to be an exemplary mother, and is caring for her baby with great confidence and tenderness. Thus far, Mandara and her baby girl are adapting to their new lives as Zoo celebrities and seem to be unfazed by the attention they’re receiving from the crowds of visitors flocking to the Great Ape House. Soon, Mandara will be transporting the baby on her back. The baby’s name will be determined in the coming weeks.

Whitney Houston, the multimillion-selling singer who emerged in the 1980s as one of her generation’s greatest R & B voices, only to deteriorate through years of cocaine use and an abusive marriage, died on Saturday in Los Angeles. Her death was confirmed by her publicist, Kristen Foster.

She was 48, and had been in Los Angeles on Saturday to sing for the annual pre-Grammy party held at the Beverly Hilton hotel by Clive Davis, the founder of Arista Records, who had been her pop mentor.

Ms. Houston was declared dead in her room at the hotel about 4 p.m. after paramedics from the Beverly Hills Fire Department spent close to 30 minutes trying to revive her, the authorities said. There was no immediate word on the cause of her death.

The streets in front of the Beverly Hilton, already crowded because of the Grammy Awards party taking place there, were swarmed with reporters and fans, drawn by the news of this latest high-profile pop star dying in Los Angeles.

Partygoers and celebrities continued to arrive for Mr. Davis’s party while fans stood behind a rope trying to take pictures. Dressed in evening gowns and tuxedos, people stepped out of limousines at the curbside and streamed into the party.

From the first, Ms. Houston had the talent, looks and pedigree of a pop superstar. She was the daughter of Cissy Houston, a gospel and pop singer who had backed up Aretha Franklin, and the cousin of Dionne Warwick. (Ms. Franklin is Ms. Houston’s godmother.)

Ms. Houston’s range spanned five octaves, and her voice was plush, vibrant and often spectacular. She could pour on the exuberant flourishes of gospel or peal a simple pop chorus; she could sing sweetly or unleash a sultry rasp.

Dressed in everything from formal gowns to T-shirts, she cultivated the image of a fun-loving but ardent good girl, the voice behind songs as perky as “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)” and as torchy as what became her signature song, a version of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You.”

But by the mid-1990s, even as she was moving into acting with films like “The Bodyguard” and “The Preacher’s Wife,” she became what she described, in a 2009 interview with Oprah Winfrey, as a “heavy” user of marijuana and cocaine. By the 2000s she was struggling; her voice grew smaller, scratchier and less secure, and her performances grew erratic.

All of Ms. Houston’s studio albums were million-sellers, and two have sold more than 10 million copies in the United States alone: Her 1985 debut album and the 1992 soundtrack to “The Bodyguard,” which contains ”I Will Always Love You.”

But her marriage to the singer Bobby Brown — which was, at one point, documented in a Bravo reality television series, “Being Bobby Brown” — grew miserable, and in the 2000s, her singles slipped from the top 10. Ms. Houston became a tabloid subject; the National Enquirer ran a photo of her bathroom showing drug paraphernalia. And each new album — “Just Whitney” in 2002 and “I Look to You” in 2009 — became a comeback.

At Central Park in 2009, singing for “Good Morning America,” her voice was frayed, and on the world tour that followed the release of the album “I Look to You,” she was often shaky.

Whitney Houston was born on Aug. 9, 1963, in Newark. She sang in church, and as a teenager in the 1970s and early 1980s, she worked as a backup studio singer and featured vocalist with acts including Chaka Khan, the Neville Brothers and Bill Laswell’s Material.

Mr. Davis signed her after hearing her perform in a New York City nightclub, and spent two years supervising production of the album “Whitney Houston,” which was released in 1985. It placed her remarkable voice in polished, catchy songs that straddled pop and R & B, and it included three No. 1 singles: “Saving All My Love for You,” “How Will I Know” and “The Greatest Love of All.”

Because Ms. Houston had been credited on previous recordings, including a 1984 duet with Teddy Pendergrass, she was ruled ineligible for the best new artist category of the Grammy Awards; the eligibility criteria have since been changed. But “Saving All My Love for You” won her first Grammy award, for best female pop vocal performance, an award she would win twice more.

Her popularity soared for the next decade. Her second album, “Whitney,” in 1987, became the first album by a woman to enter the Billboard charts at No. 1, and it included four No. 1 singles. She shifted her pop slightly toward R & B on her third album, “I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight,” in 1990, which had three more No. 1 singles.

For much of the 1990s, she turned to acting, bolstered by her music. She played a pop diva in “The Bodyguard,” and its soundtrack album — including the hits “I Will Always Love You,” “I’m Every Woman,” “I Have Nothing” and “Run To You” — went on to sell 17 million copies in the United States. It won the Grammy for album of the year, and “I Will Always Love You” won record of the year (for a single). After making the films “Waiting To Exhale” in 1995 and “The Preacher’s Wife” in 1996 — which gave her the occasion to make a gospel album — Ms. Houston resumed her pop career with “My Love Is Your Love” in 1998.

Ms. Houston married Mr. Brown in 1992, and in 1993 they had a daughter, Bobbi Kristina, who survives her. Ms. Houston’s 2009 interview with Ms. Winfrey portrayed it as a passionate and then turbulent marriage, marred by drug use and by his professional jealousy, psychological abuse and physical confrontations. They divorced in 2007.

Her albums in the 2000s advanced a new persona for Ms. Houston. “Just Whitney,” in 2002, was defensive and scrappy, lashing out at the media and insisting on her loyalty to her man.. Her most recent studio album, “I Look to You,” appeared in 2009, and it, too, reached No. 1. The album included a hard-headed breakup song, “Salute,” and a hymnlike anthem, “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength.” Ms. Houston sang, “I crashed down and I tumbled, but I did not crumble/I got through all the pain,” in a voice that showed scars.

In Los Angeles on Saturday night, a number of other people were drawn to the hotel where Ms. Houston died to mourn.

“I want to show support because she inspired a lot of people, and nobody’s perfect,” said Lavetris Singleton. “But if we’re not out here then she’ll be forgotten. We are her legacy.

“I was in utter, total disbelief,” she said. “Who was not a fan of Whitney Houston at some point? The song that always sticks in my mind was ‘Greatest Love of All.’ I remember singing that as a child, and all her hits, and then following her, even with her rise and fall with Bobby Brown and watching her reality show.”

Besides her daughter, now 18, Ms. Houston is survived by her mother.

A woman who answered the telephone at the Edgewater, N.J., home of Ms. Houston’s mother on Saturday night said she would not speak to reporters.

love is not a feeling.
this is misguided 20th century drama, not reality.

love is in action.
love is only something that exists at a verb tense level.
it is not adjective or noun.

you see, there is a broad and generalized misunderstanding about language which persists over time.

for instance, i will use astrology as an example.

when people hear the word astrology it would be ridiculously fun to video tape the mind's imagery. what would be the top ten imagistic representations of what springs to mind? do people imagine stars? celebrities? icons? wizards? women in medieval garb? charlatans? tramps? thieves?

but if you break it down as a grammar, it's hard not to see the same calculations that we use today.

for instance, as a grammar, let's identify the tenses in which action, as a framework, takes place.

the verbal information in astrology is carried in the dynastic cycle of the calendar structuring. that is to say, during each season there is a month which fully represents the stasis point of the three month period. this month is said to be the "constant" for that quarter, as astrology breaks the year up into quarters, thirds and twelves by the moon cycle.

during the constant months (taurus, leo, scorpio, aquarius), there is a period of stabilization. in the chinese dynastic model, this is the period of reign. it is preceded by an uprising and it is always followed by a falling out.

so the three verb tenses are RISING -- STEADY -- FALLING
you can see how english uses a similar format for identifying meaning: PAST -- PRESENT -- FUTURE

but it's weird how many people don't realize that grammars are visible, living entities.
we still struggle with a context and those apparently invisible grammars only sink in around us like fish nets.

to modify and give form to the three verb tenses, astrology uses four elements. the chinese astrology uses five. this is one obvious and notable difference between the historical cultures of both the east and west...

put your three tenses together with four elements and twelve signs and you get 144 different options. split those into male and female based grammatology and you have 72, the number of cards in the tarot deck and consequently, the number of identified personality types/steps in the completion of the human persona. ask your favorite scientologist just how much it costs to get to 72!!! [total aside, it's pretty fking hilarious that yahoo acts like it doesn't know the word scientologist in spell check... heheheh. kind of like how iPhone doesn't know Instagram and will autocorrect it to "on a gram"]

They may not agree with that assessment, of course! They want a series of shots for a revamp of their website including the front splash screen.

A concept we are working on is the idea of an anti-heroine who rises to a place of celebrity and stardom but who then undergoes a spectacular fall from grace. I guess there could be many takes on that.

On this particular shoot our narcissistic anti-heroine (on this occasion played by Elen) checks in to a hotel room with a male guest. Sordid possibilities abound but almost unconsciously the narrative twisted as we shot and by the end of the shoot the helpless male has apparently been done away with! The female of the species is more deadlier...
