CAMP HUMPHREYS - In celebration of the 60th Anniversary of the U.S.-ROK alliance and Pyeongtaek University's centennial anniversary, a concert featuring the Korean pop singer "Rain," was held at the Pyeongtaek University 90th Anniversary Building, March 7.

The show was hosted by K-Force Media and organized by the university Research Center for USFK, and sponsored by Pyeongtaek City.

More than 1,500 people attended the concert, including personnel from Camp Humphreys and Osan Air Base, Soldiers from ROKA 51st Infantry Division, ROK Navy 2nd Fleet, ROKAF Operations Command Support Group, ROKAF 7th Communication Group, Pyeongtaek citizens and PTU students.

The highlight of the show was when ROKA Cpl. Jung Ji-hoon, best known as Rain, took the stage to sing his hit song "Hip Song." When Rain, who is one of the most famous celebrities in Korea, showed up on the stage many people crowded into the front. He came down and shook hands with fans during his performance.

Before he came out, other K-Pop stars like Sangchu and 9MUSES, as well as others performed. Everybody in the hall seemed to enjoy the performances.

After the concert, some Soldiers happened to meet their old Korean friends from the Headstart Program and several U.S. and ROK Soldiers shared a moment by taking commemorative pictures together.

"The Pyeongtaek University staff provided a warm welcomed to all the USFK personnel, which is a display of the strong alliance and cooperation we have with our local Korean community," said Sean McManus Sr., a program analyst for the Camp Humphreys Family and Morale, Welfare and , Recreation. "The concert was great with the variety of artists performing. It was a pleasure
to see the live show."

"Wang Wenlan" At the launch of his wonderful book "Facing the Cold", Philip McMaster congratulated China Daily, Wang Wenlan, all the people involved in the production of the book, the Chinese Military for thier rapid and compassionate help in the crisis, and the Chinese People for their courage and cooperation in the face of disaster.

Philip McMaster is from Montreal Canada, (the same city where Dr. Norman Bethune was educated and developed many innovations in Medicine) where he particpated as Director of Volunteer Coordination with "Cool to be Canadian" during two major disasters caused by Global Warming in 1997 and 1998. (see links below for details)

Presented with complimentary copies of the "Face the Cold" book, in gratitude Mr. McMaster shared the new Chinese Sustainability Symbol (3 fingers) with many of the key dignitaries, noting that he had developed the symbol in China, when teaching MBA students at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. This "made in China" symbol, researched and developed by the McMaster Institute for Sustainable Development of Commerce, is designed to become an ATTITUDE that the Chinese people will practice first for the Olympics, (balancing Society, Environment and Economy) and then export as China's gift of sustainability to the world.

Today Philip McMaster is Principal Researcher with the McMaster Institute for Sustainable Development of Commerce www.SustainabilitySymbol.com and Eco-Entrepreneurship Coach with www.Dragonpreneur.com , www.Dragonpreneur.com/blog

a description of the research and development of the Sustainability Symbol and programs for Chinese students of business and entrepreneurs can be found at the following websites: www.Dragonpreneur.com, www.DragonThink.com,

Victor Hugo, c.1870.
famous celebrities
By the studio of Ghemar Freres, Brussels.

One of the most important French writers of the 19th century, Victor Hugo's (1802-1885) best known works include The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1831) and Les Miserables (1862). Hugo's political ideas won him both acclaim and hostility - he fled France in 1851 due to his opposition to Napoleon. At his death in 1885 he was publicly celebrated, receiving burial in the Pantheon with great honours.

This portrait is called a carte-de-visite and was taken at the studio of Ghemar Freres, Brussels, in about 1870.A carte-de-visite is a photograph mounted on a piece of card the size of a formal visiting card of the 1850s. The format was introduced by the French photographer Andre-Adolphe-Eugene Disdéri (1819-1889) in 1854. The craze for collecting celebrity cartes-de-visite in albums reached its peak during the 1860s but the format remained popular until the beginning of the twentieth century.
